An easy, light and refreshing Summer Salad using the freshest ingredients and salty Feta Cheese. An absolute flavor packed salad recipe you must try at home!

Horiatiki Salad, popularly known as the Traditional Greek Salad, is a refreshing Summer Salad Recipe from the Greek or Mediterranean Cuisine. A simple salad using juicy tomatoes, crunchy cucumbers, onions and feta cheese combined with a basic salad dressing.
We personally love Greek Salad for 2 reasons - Fresh Vegetables and Feta Cheese!
Greek Salad can be easily rustled up on weekdays and weekends alike. It is pretty simple and can be served with fresh warm rolls, focaccia bread or pasta for lunch or dinner.
The ingredients are fairly easy to source (mostly found in your refrigerator or backyard garden during summers) and can be put together in no time.
This is one of those salad recipes where lettuce is not used at all.
The salad serves as side with vegetarian mains at barbecue parties or potluck dinners. It serves a crowd and makes an easy weeknight meal too.

About Horiatiki Salad
- Horiatiki Salad (also known as Horiatiki Salata) is pronounced as "whore-ya-tee-kee".
- Horio means village in Greek.
- Key ingredients are - ripe red tomatoes, onions and Kalamata Olives. Feta Cheese (the original Greek cheese) is generously crumbled and added to the salad.
- Traditional Greek salad has no lettuce.
It is an extremely refreshing salad that has simple yet clean flavors. Basil leaves really add a lovely aroma to the salad as its used generously in the dressing.
This salad closely resembles our Indian Kachumber salad sans the cheese and the olives.
Ingredients for Greek Salad

Cucumbers, Onions, Tomatoes, Bell Pepper or Capsicum and Onions.
I have used Green Peppers. You can use any variety - red or yellow. Green gives the perfect colour pop to the salad.
Feta Cheese - I use vegetarian feta cheese that contains no animal rennet.
Fresh Basil Leaves - You can substitute with dry basil. I would recommend using fresh for the aroma and the depth of flavors, it adds to the dressing.
Traditionally, Kalamata Olives are used. Use any variety easily available in your local supermarkets.
Salad Dressing - Dry Oregano, Fresh Basil, Lemon Juice, Honey, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and salt.
For Dairy Free or Vegan Recipe - Skip the Cheese OR use any suitable substitutes.
Honey can be substituted with Maple Syrup or Agave.
What to Serve with Greek Salad?

I think of this salad as an All Season Salad Recipe as the ingredients are super easy to source.
On a hot summer afternoon, this salad would make a filling lunch for two.
SOUPS - Broccoli Soup, Carrot Ginger Soup with Coconut Milk, Tom Kha Soup (Thai Coconut Milk Soup) and Vegan Mushroom Soup.
APPETIZERS - Smashed Potatoes, Quinoa Sweet Potato Patties, Air Fryer Roasted Potatoes, Broccoli Tater Tots and Cauliflower Tikka
BREADS - Pizza Pull Apart Bread, Garlic Knots and Garlic Pull Apart Bread
Leftovers and Storage
If you are planning to serve the salad for potluck or party, refrigerate all the ingredients and mix them once the guests arrive. The salad tastes best when served chilled.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and used for wraps, sandwiches, pita pockets etc. The salad might get soggy, if kept longer.
