Berry Smoothie with yogurt is a healthy Breakfast Smoothie made with frozen berries, banana, yogurt and dates. Ready under 10 mins, this smoothie recipe is perfect for busy mornings, after school snack for kids or breakfast on the go!
Smoothies make a quick and healthy breakfast option. They are versatile, can be made using few ingredients from pantry and / or refrigerator, freezer.
This smoothie is a best way to use up all the frozen berries stocked in your freezer especially if you are avoiding desserts.
Fresh berries are in season during summer. It is also the best time to freeze them to use later for smoothies, porridge, oats or topping for parfaits, muesli or granola.
I personally love the texture of smoothies made with frozen berries. They are ice cold (without adding ice cubes), thick and absolutely divine when sipped through a thick straw on a hot summer day!

Smoothies are a great way to enjoy fruits. Ideal for picky eaters too who can sip the smoothie instead of fussing over fruit platters.
I enjoy a glass of smoothie either as breakfast or late afternoon snack when I am slightly hungry. It keeps me full until dinner time and helps me control cravings for salty or fried snacks.
Ingredients
Frozen Berries - I have used frozen Blueberries and Strawberries for the recipe. You can also add raspberries or blackberries, if you like.
Don't bother thawing frozen berries. You can directly add them to a blender and blitz.
When in season, you can absolutely make this smoothie using fresh berries.
Frozen Banana's are a game changer! It makes smoothies naturally thick and creamy. Banana adds sweetness in contrast to the sweet and somewhat tart berries.
If you consume smoothies regularly, I recommend having a stash of frozen banana. You can cut them into half or thick slices, as you like. It stays fresh for over a month. Saves time in the morning, which is a bonus!
Yogurt - The "protein" factor of our smoothie. Yogurt is great for the gut and perfect way to start your day.
I make yogurt at home using cow milk and culture. You can opt for Greek Yogurt (thick and creamy texture) or any Vegan / plant based yogurt of your choice. Coconut yogurt will be a great addition considering fruits and dates.
Dates - Not only do they add natural sweetness, they provide energy to sail through a busy day.
Medjool dates are quite popular because of the soft and buttery texture. I have also tried Safawi and Omani dates for smoothies or making desserts, tamarind chutney etc.
Other alternatives are honey, maple syrup, agave or stevia.
How to Make Berry Smoothie with Yogurt
In a blender jar, add the ingredients - Frozen Berries (strawberry and blueberries), banana, dates and yogurt.
Blend well. If the smoothie consistency is too thick, add extra yogurt or some water.
Serve chilled.
Variations
Turn it into a smoothie bowl by adding some chia seeds, pecans and berries. Top it with some homemade granola or muesli for extra fiber.
Add a mix of berries instead of choosing 1 or 2. Berries are sweet and tart so adjust the quantity of sweetener.
Substitute yogurt with milk as a variation. You can use plant based milk such as coconut milk or oat milk for a Vegan version. For an extra dose of probiotics, add kefir.
I have not added nuts. Feel free to add almonds, pecans or unsweetened nut butters like peanut butter or almond butter. If you are allergic to nuts, skip this!
Hemp Seeds, Chia or Flax are great additions.
Storage
I strongly recommend consuming all smoothies immediately. They taste best when freshly blended and has umpteen health benefits.
Leftovers, if any, can be consumed within a day.
