Why you'll love Air Fryer Carrot Fries

  1. Interesting ways to include more vegetables in everyday meals
  2. Healthier than Potato Fries
  3. Kid-Friendly
  4. Gluten-Free, Vegan and Vegetarian
  5. Ready under 30 mins (including prep work)

Let's agree, we all struggle when it comes to snacking (myself included). The Air Fryer continues to amaze me with every recipe I have tried.

Snacks like French Fries or Sweet Potato Fries that traditionally requires deep frying comes out crispy and light with just a spoonful of oil.

If you are still contemplating about buying this appliance, I hope our list of Air Fryer Recipes clears your doubts and builds your trust.

Fall or Winter is the best time to enjoy Carrots or basically any root vegetable. They are tender, fresh, sweet and so good when roasted, served as salad or soup.

The whole recipe comes together in just under 30 minutes. Also, its low on prep compared to say, potato fries or sweet potatoes.

All you need to do is just peel and cut the carrots into fries, season them and line them into an air fryer basket. 20 mins later, you have a bowlful of healthy fries and you are all set to binge watch your favorite TV shows or movies.

Ingredients

Carrots - Check Step-wise Instructions below on how to prep the carrots for making fries.

Seasoning - I have kept the seasoning pretty basic and just included EVOO, Garlic Powder, Smoked Paprika, Salt and Black Pepper Powder.

How to make Carrot Fries in Air Fryer

Prepping the Carrots

Peel the Carrots, remove the ends and cut them into half. Each half is further sliced lengthwise into 2-3 slices (depending on the size of the carrots). Each slice is then cut into 4- 5 thin sticks (depending on the length of each slice)

While prepping, ensure the carrot sticks are cut in uniform size.

Thinner Carrot sticks = Crispier fries.

You can also use crinkle cut knife for crinkle cut carrot fries.

Sliced carrots would make crispy carrot chips.

These are some of the variations which you can try depending on time.

Note - Unlike Potato Fries, carrots don't require soaking to remove excess starch. This makes prep work such a breeze and the carrot fries are ready under 30 minutes.

Pre-heat the Air Fryer for 3-5 mins at 200 Degree Celsius.

Once the carrots are prepped, add them to a bowl along with seasoning and oil.

After pre-heating spray oil in the air fryer basket to prevent the fries from sticking.

Place the carrot sticks in a single line. You can air fry in 2 batches.

Air Fry at 180 Degree Celsius for 18 to 20 mins. Shake the basket at regular intervals.

Seasoning Ideas

Ranch Seasoning - Great option for game nights or when serving these fries with veggie burgers.

Indian Spices - You can add curry powder, garam masala powder or a combination of cumin and ground coriander spice with some turmeric. If you prefer spicy fries, add some paprika or cayenne.

Italian Herbs - Mixed Italian Herbs or a combination of two - rosemary and oregano or thyme and basil along with red chili flakes.

Mediterranean Flavors - Sumac or Za'atar Spice mixed with olive oil can be used as seasoning. The fries can be served with tahini as dip.

Mexican - Taco Seasoning

Sweet - While savory options are great, drizzling honey or maple syrup on crunchy fries are an interesting way. Go easy on the sweetener though!

FAQ's

Will Carrot Fries be crispy like Potato Fries?

Yes. Carrot fries are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This is subject to slicing and cutting the carrots in uniform size.

How to prevent Soggy Carrot Fries?

Ensure you pat dry the carrots with a dry kitchen towel to ensure there is no residual moisture. Slice and cut the fries in equal shape. Do not crowd or pile the carrots in the air fryer basket.

Can we make No Oil Carrot Fries in Air Fryer?

Without the addition of fat (in this case oil), the fries would crisp and turn dry or dehydrated. They are ok to taste when hot, are quite dry and lack flavor once it cools down.

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 270 grams Carrots 3 medium size carrots used here
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Smoked Paprika
  • ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Instructions

  • Peel the Carrots, remove the ends and cut them into half. Each half is further sliced lengthwise into 2-3 slices (depending on the size of the carrots). Each slice is then cut into 4- 5 thin sticks (depending on the length of each slice).
  • Pre-heat the Air Fryer for 5 mins at 200 Degree Celsius. After pre-heating spray oil in the air fryer basket to prevent the fries from sticking.
  • Once the carrots are prepped, add them to a bowl. Add smoked paprika, salt, garlic powder and drizzle oil.
  • Place the carrot sticks in a single line. Note - if you double the recipe, air fry in 2 batches.
  • Air Fry at 180 Degree C (350 Degree F) for 18 to 20 mins. Shake the basket half way through to ensure they crisp evenly.
  • Once done, serve them with a spicy dip, mayo or ketchup.

Notes

  1. Always pre-heat your air fryer and spray / brush oil to prevent food from sticking. I wouldn't recommend using parchment paper as it interferes with the heat and air circulation.
  2. Air Fryer snacks are best consumed piping hot. If the fries are cold, re-heat them for a couple of minutes in the air fryer and they would crisp up. You may also spray some oil while re-heating.
  3. To prevent soggy fries, slice and cut the fries in equal shape. Do not crowd or pile the carrots in the air fryer basket.
  4. I would not recommend "No Oil Carrot Fries" as they would simply taste dry, chewy and dehydrated.
  5. The fries can be cut and prepped a day earlier. Carrot sticks can be frozen and thawed, if prepping in bulk. Season just before air frying.
