Mango Mulberry Smoothie
Summers and Mangoes in season means that the blog should have some recipes with Mangoes right? While I wanted to do the traditional Mango Lassi or Mango Milkshake posts, I opted making the smoothie last month when I found a batch, rather two of Fresh Mulberries. You can read all about it on my blog post for Spiced Mulberry Cooler, which by the way, also won the 2nd prize in a contest for “Summer Coolers” conducted by a dear friend, Paarul Mehta of Paaarulz Kitchen Blog.
Since I had 2 boxes of Mulberries and Narayan isn’t crazy about berries the way I am, I decided to consume them all starting with breakfast – So a sugar free smoothie, yet again. I mean, why the sugar when you have two sweet fruits like mangoes and mulberries? It keeps you full and energetic during the summers and since I fast every Tuesday, this provided the much needed energy and helped me stay active during the entire day after running errands in the heat and back at home, doing the blog work.

This is a perfect post workout meal too as it has no sugar, little milk and the goodness of fresh fruits. If your read the health benefits of Shahtoot or Mulberry on the blog post, referred above, you would include them in your diet for sure. Extremely kid friendly, I mean, just look at the gorgeous colour! If you are planning a treat for your kids, you can just add some vanilla or mango icecream and blend this smoothie, it would be gulped within few minutes.
So, get a batch of Mulberries and make a blender full of this gorgeous thirst quencher and a perfect meal substitute for this summer.

Recipe for Mango Mulberry Smoothie
Makes 2 glasses
Ingredients –
- Fresh Mulberries – 20 nos.
- Mangoes – 1 cup roughly chopped
- Milk – ½ cup
- Ice cubes – 10 nos.
Method –
- Mix all the above ingredients, including the ice cubes in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Serve chilled.
Recipe Notes –
- In case you don’t have access to fresh mulberries, you can use frozen blueberries too.
- You can go ahead and add some sugar too, if you like. Frankly the fruits were sweet, so I have opted it out. Also, since this is more of a breakfast option, I tend to go sugar free.
- For kids, you can add a small cup or a scoop of vanilla ice cream or strawberry/mango ice cream and eliminate the ice cubes. Would be creamy and fantastic to taste.
