Grapes and Walnut Raita
Its been quiet sometime that I have been wanting to try out a recipe from a Cookbook I own. Let’s face it – All of us own quite a lot of cookbooks as we love looking at the picture perfect images. I myself own few cookbooks but honestly I have hardly tried anything from them ever since I turned a blogger. Sounds lame, doesn’t it?
So, finally when I decided that this month I shall post one recipe from a Cookbook, I knew that very moment that a loving gift from a dear friend, would and should be the perfect start. I met Amrita Iyer who blogs at The Food Samaritan couple of months ago when she lovingly invited me and my husband over for Christmas Tea and Snacks at her residence. We chatted a lot and ate delicious food and the gorgeous cake baked by her. When I was leaving, she gifted me 2 cook books and I was thrilled to own them. I have been wanting to make something from the book she gave me since quite sometime now but never really got down to doing that even though I had bookmarked this recipe. I made this recipe and clicked the images last month but as you know from my earlier posts, I couldn’t find the time to post it.
Since it is the season of Raitas and Curd based foods, I thought let me make the most of the lost opportunity and post this. This recipe was bookmarked by me for two reasons, the inclusion of Walnut in the recipe which is healthy and wholesome and the juicy grapes. Not to mention, it takes only 10 minutes to whip this up and not even 5 to lick the bowl clean. I had served this with a quick fried rice along with roasted papads on a hot summer afternoon, which husband totally enjoyed.
Since many of us are not into hot dals or rich gravies for the next one month or so, such recipes are surely a keeper. Fruits keep us hydrated and the skin healthy.
The recipe is adapted from Sanjeev Kapoor’s Cookbook – Party Snacks with very few modifications as per our taste and preference.

Over to the quick and easy recipe.
Recipe for Grapes and Walnut Raita
Prep Time – 10 mins
Cook Time – Nil
Serves 3 nos.
- 2 cups of Thick yoghurt
- 1 cup of Black Grapes
- ¼ cup of Walnuts coarsely chopped
- ½ tsp of sugar
- Rosted Jeera / Cumin Powder – ¼ tsp + few for garnish
- Kashmiri Chilli Powder – few sprinkles as garnish
- Himalayan Pink Salt as per taste
- Few mint leaves
- Whisk the yogurt well, add salt, some portion of cumin powder, sugar and whisk again until the sugar and salt mixes well.
- Add grapes and walnuts to this mixture and few mint leaves.
- Mix well and keep it refrigerated until serving.
- While serving, sprinkle some Kashmiri Red chilli powder and roasted cumin powder along with few mint leaves torn.
- Garnish it with walnuts, if you prefer.
Recipe Notes –
- Himalayan pink salt is an addiction for me now so I tend to add it in everything. You may replace it with table salt or kala namak / rock salt.
- You may skip the Kashmiri red chilli if serving for kids.
- If your kids don’t like walnuts, coarsely grind them and add it to the curd mixture and reduce the quantity of walnuts else the taste might overpower.
- The original recipe had around 1 ½ tblsp of sugar but I have reduced it drastically as there are grapes in them already, why bother with extra sugar?
