Quick and Easy way to enjoy Corn On the Cob in an Instant Pot with step by step pics and plenty of toppings or seasoning ideas to enjoy your favorite Corn!

Instant Pot Corn on the Cob

We are huge Corn on the Cob fans at home. So, when I tried this using the Instant Pot, I couldn't believe how quick the entire process was. Cooked to Perfection, these make an incredible snack or side dish.

Lately, I have been cooking everything using the Instant Pot at home. I love experimenting with my appliances - be it my 4 year old Air Fryer and now Instant Pot! The thing is, I hate letting anything gather dust on the kitchen counter. Besides, I am a sucker for anything that reduces time and effort!

This is one of the most easiest ways to enjoy Corn-on-the-cob. I haven't gone back to the conventional method of using my steamer pot in all these months.

  • Instant Pot Corn on the Cob

In United States, Corn season means Summers! It's enjoyed in a variety of ways - Grilled, Chowder, Soup, Salad. Also, just plain and simple steamed corn with a variety of seasonings.

Prepping the Corn

This recipe basically uses only 1 Ingredient and that is De-husked Corn. Not that I don't enjoy shucking the corn or de-husking it at home, I sometimes try and reduce my workload by opting for ready de-husked corn from the supermarket or local stores.

De-husking at home can be quite messy with the silky tassels spread everywhere on the kitchen counter. It is one of the tasks that I quietly assign to my husband.

I have used my 6 quart IP which can easily hold up to 5-6 corns.

If you are a corn loving family, this method allows you to bulk cook the corn. It can then be cut and stored in the freezer for using in a variety of recipes.

How to Make Corn on the Cob in Instant Pot

Switch on the Instant Pot, Fill the steel insert with 1 & 1/2 cups of water.

Now place the trivet inside followed by the de-husked corn.

Close the lid, adjust the vent to sealing position. Pressure Cook on High Pressure for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, do a Manual Pressure release. Let the steam escape and then slowly lift the corn using tongs.

While these can be enjoyed as it is, straight from the Instant Pot, I have suggested some of the toppings or seasoning ideas below.

These will ensure you never get bored of eating Corn on the Cob. Also would come handy in case you are gathering friends for a BBQ or pool party at home.

Suggested Toppings or Seasonings

Classic Corn on the Cob tastes best with a blob of butter, a good sprinkle of salt, pepper and red chilli flakes. Enjoy it warm. You can watch the salty butter slide and lick them off your fingers.

Cheesy Corn - Lay the steamed corn on a serving plate, apply butter. Sprinkle salt and then grate parmesan cheese or crumbled feta cheese. Note - If using Feta, season with caution as feta is a salty cheese.

Lime and Chilli - Paprika & Lemon Juice can be rubbed with some salt over the warm cob.

Miso Butter - You could give the regular butter a break and use miso butter instead. This can be used for other grilled vegetables or meat preparations too.

Curry Powder or Garam Masala Powder - Try Indian flavors. Prepare a spread made of soft butter + salt + garam masala powder or curry powder, some finely chopped cilantro.

Jalapeno Butter - Jalapeno and Corn are a perfect match. Spicy, Garlicky and so good!

If you are unable to decide what toppings to choose, simply bulk cook and store Sweet Corn in your freezer.

Do Check out our "Recipes that Use Corn" section below for some ideas.

How to Freeze Corn

After the corn has slightly cooled down. Hold it vertically and just run a sharp knife on all sides. The corn would simply fall off the cob.

This can be stored in an airtight box and frozen. I follow this method which ensures I never run out of corn!

This can be refrigerated too. I prefer freezing as cooked or steamed corn does tend to turn slimy after 3 - 4 days.

The frozen corn can be thawed in a microwave or kitchen counter until it attains room temperature.

Recipes that Use Corn

Sweet Corn Soup - Filling, hearty and delicious soup with sweet corn kernels and other vegetables. My version of the recipe is gluten free and does not use any flour for thickening the soup.

Corn Salad - Summer favorite salad and Bonus - It is Oil Free!

Corn Pakoda in Air Fryer - Fritters made with sweet corn and onion! Excellent snack or appetizer for the family.

Equipment

  • Instant Pot

Ingredients

  • 2 Corn on the Cob De-husked Corn used
  • 1 ½ cups Water

Instructions

Prepping the corn

  • I have used store bought de-husked corn which means Zero Prep work. In case you are de-husking or shucking the corn at home, peel the outer leaves and remove all the silky tassles.

Instant Pot Instructions

  • Switch on the Instant Pot, Fill the steel insert with 1 & 1/2 cups of water, now place the trivet inside and place the corn on top of the trivet.
  • Close the lid, adjust the vent to sealing position. Pressure Cook on High Pressure for 3 minutes.
  • After 3 minutes, do a Manual Pressure release.
  • Carefully open the Instant Pot lid and allow the steam to escape. Use tongs to lift the corn and place it on a serving plate.

Notes

  1. A 6 Quart Instant Pot can easily cook 5 - 6 corn at one go. The cook time remains unchanged.
  2. Storage and Freezing - Once cooked, they can be cut and stored in an airtight container. These can be refrigerated for a couple of days and frozen for using in various recipes like soups, salads, chowder etc.
  3. Frozen corn can be thawed in a microwave or kitchen counter and used.
  4. Toppings or Seasoning Ideas - Lime and Chilli, Miso Butter, Jalapeno Butter, Cheese, Curry powder or Garam Masala Powder.
  5. Please note that the cook time mentioned above says 15 minutes whereas the recipe says 3 minutes pressure cook. This is because I have also considered the time taken for the IP to build pressure and release into consideration as well.
