Rajgira Chivda is a Falahari (meant for fasting) Chivda or Savoury Trail Mix. This Vrat ki Namkeen can also be consumed on non-fasting days along with a cup of tea and/or a light mid morning snack option too. Diabetic friendly snack.

Rajgira Chivda

I bet you saw this post coming! With the last blog post on "How to Pop Amaranth Seeds at home", I was left with a lot of popped or puffed Rajgira and I decided to make a Falahari Chivda or Namkeen or Healthy Savoury Indian Trail Mix for fasting.

The Rajgira Chivda is a Falahari (meant for fasting) Chivda, Namkeen or Trail Mix. This Vrat ki Namkeen can also be consumed on non-fasting days along with a cup of tea and/or as a light mid morning snack option too.

Vrat Upvas Falahar Namkeen or Chivda Recipe made with Amaranth or Rajgira

The whole point of fasting is to eat light and avoid fried foods as much as possible and this Falahari Chivda Recipe is far better than the unhealthy deep fried chips that one tends to consume a lot during fasts. This Namkeen satisfies the salt cravings and is made with less oil, healthy ingredients too. The Falahari Chivda or Namkeen is Senior Citizen Friendly and Diabetic Friendly too.

Rajgira or Amaranth is gluten free in nature. Amaranth is an Indian Superfood that is extremely healthy. Amaranth or Rajgira is diabetic friendly too. The Rajgira Chivda or Vrat ki Namkeen is made with very less oil too and can be made ahead and stored for fasting days and/or regular snacking option too.

How to Make Rajgira Chivda / Falahari Chivda Recipe / Vrat ki Namkeen

  • Puffed Amaranth Seeds or Rajgira (you can use store bought or make it at home easily - link give above in 1st paragraph)
  • Peanuts
  • Cumin Seeds, Curry Leaves
  • Salt to taste (you can use Sendha Namak for fasting days and iodized salt for regular consumption)

If you are looking for more fasting recipes, check out the Sabudana Khichdi recipe and the Rajgira Thalipeeth Recipe.

Let us look at the Recipe with easy step by step pics of the Rajgira Chivda / Falahari Chivda Recipe / Vrat ki Namkeen Recipe

Prep time - 5 to 7 minutes

Cook time - 5 to 10 minutes

Serves 4 to 5 nos.

1 cup is 200 ml measurement

Ingredients

  • 3 cups of puffed Amaranth or Rajgira
  • 1/4 cup of roasted peanuts
  • 2 tbslp of Oil
  • 2 tsps of Jeera or cumin seeds
  • Few sprigs of curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Method

(1) Heat a kadhai or non-stick pan, add oil and cumin seeds.

(2) Once the cumin has roasted, add the curry leaves and roasted peanuts. Saute well.

(3) Now add the puffed amaranth and salt to taste. Mix well

(4) Switch off the flame and allow it to cool slightly.

(5) Store the chivda in an air tight container and it stays fresh for weeks together.

Recipe Notes

  • I have puffed the Amaranth seeds at home, you can use store bought too.
  • Since this trail mix or chivda, namkeen is only for fasting purpose, I have not added other things like hing or red chilli powder etc. You can make it spicy too according to your taste for non-fasting days.

As we were discussing on Facebook, Farali khana is so much better than regular food sometimes. 😀 😀 Jokes aside, this healthy snack will serve me well every day on my weightloss journey.

My first thought was making a ladoo too but since I am holding off sweets I thought savoury would be better in terms of mid morning snack for both of us at home. Thanks Swaty
