Post Ganesh Chaturthi function at home, all we needed was something light, is easy to digest, filling and a perfect detox, the body needed after all the fried, sweets and the heavy meals. I simply had to make this delicious, quick fuss free Lentil Soup. 

The Red lentils or Masoor ki dal with the tender ginger scored on all the above points and provided the much needed rest to the stomach. Ginger works wonderfully with your respiratory tract which also goes for a toss with the greasy food you tend to have during festivals.

This is an oil free, diabetic friendly, senior citizen friendly soup. Also, recovering patients who are advised light meals can opt for this easy soup recipe that takes less than 30 minutes and is superbly delicious and filling. All you need is a pressure cooker, 10 minutes of soaking the lentils and you get a delicious bowl of soup that is easy to digest. This soup is also gluten free and vegan. 2 simple ingredients and a bowl of steaming soup is all you need after you have indulged and are crying to get back into shape or just plainly looking for simple and healthy choices post heavy festive food.

I have used the tudka masoor ki dal or the split red gram here and hence the soaking time is just 10 minutes. These lentils cook faster too. All lentils are protein loaded and masoor dal is no exception. Adding ginger to the soup helps you relieve of gas and constipation issues.

Recipe for Red Lentils and Ginger Soup / Masoor Dal aur Adrak ka Soup

Prep Time (Soaking time) - 10 minutes

Cook Time - 15 minutes

Serves 2

Ingredients for 2 persons

  1. Red Lentils or Masoor Ki Dal – 1 cup
  2. 1 tblsp ginger grated
  3. A pinch of Turmeric powder
  4. Himalayan Pink Salt as per taste

Method

  1. Wash and soak the red lentils or masoor ki dal for 10 odd minutes.
  2. Pressure cook the dal with soaked water, grated ginger, turmeric powder and salt as per taste, until mushy (atleast 4 whistles)
  3. Allow it to cool for few minutes and then blitz the same in a mixer grinder.
  4. Serve hot with some paprika powder dusted on top, croutons if you like or baked crackers etc.
